Clarity Session: Vision ~ Roadmaps ~ Checklists

Welcome to How to Coach — your weekly fast-track to mastery
I’ve spend 19 years coaching thousands of people, testing every approach you can imagine. Now I’m handing you the do’s, don’ts, and proven strategies that actually work. Why? So you can skip the trial-and-error and become the BEST coach your clients will ever meet—faster than you thought possible.

“A confused mind says no.”
I’ve experienced it… and I’ve seen it happen to great clients.
It’s human nature to want to SEE where they are going and understand what the next steps are.
When motivation is wavering it’s a great time to review the vision, the map and the details to bring clarity back in.
Clarity = Natural Motivation
The Vision
When they can SEE IT….they start to BELIEVE IT. The magic of motivation kicks in and they become fearless in their actions and bold in their approach. What do they want? Do they want more money? Time? Health? Connection? Each person is different. Explore what’s deep in their heart. It’s smart to put this into writing at some point so they can review it for a refresher. So how do you produce a Vision? How will they act? How will they treat others? What will their day be like? What will their bank account look like? What does their house look like? What will their calendar look like? How will they feel inside? What will they think about themselves? Will they be traveling? Their company? Their team? Their relationships?
The Roadmap
Identifying the major mile markers along the way. Instead of trying to reach their Vision in one big huge step, break it down into 3 stages. At first they get excited about the Vision and they get revved up to get going, but then they realize there’s a lot to do in that big step. This can drain their fuel tank fast. So create 3 stages of progress brings this Vision into more of a reality.
The Checklist
Within each stage what are the action items? What activities need to happen to get to that first mile marker in their Vision? You may discover some of the action steps you find actually go in stage 2 or stage 3. It’s ok to populate each of the 3 stages with action steps up front. This helps divide up the actions and organize them where they need to happen. It’s common for a person to have a list of action steps that are out of order and putting the cart before the horse. It also is ok to rearrange these steps as time goes along because more clarity shows up.
Remember that your client is learning how to do this. They are not a pro at this. When learning, it’s common to make mistakes and need help to stay on track. They will appreciate your guidance through this process.
When I do this with my clients it really energizes their belief in themselves. I love seeing a client in the zone of belief. Happy and Confident…and it all came from a Clarity Session.
You can have a clarity session like this at any time during your coaching program with them. If they slow down, get lost or start to have more drama then action ... .It's time for a Clarity Session.
Clarity is the starting point of all success.
I have a coach. I just had an appointment last Monday night at midnight. Crazy. My coach lives in Australia. She is 19 hours ahead of where I live here in Utah. Yes, I was a bit tired. But I was ready. It’s really helped me be a better coach by being a client, too. It reminds me how it feels to be on this side of the conversation. I get to observe my thoughts, my feelings and my reactions to being coached. This then gives me insight of how I can be a better coach to my clients. I learned a lot from my last session which opened my eyes to what I am now fixing for my clients.
If you don’t have a coach, get one. If you don’t have a coach, you won’t grow as fast as you can… and your business won’t evolve to the level it could. Be a student. It will help you be a better teacher.
Love it!
Great to share with you today.
